| Weighting: Many divers struggle to descend at the beginning of the dive so they over weight themselves. Only to find that once underwater they are far too heavy. Equipment and trim: Well serviced balanced regulators require less effort to suck in air. Gear that fits properly and you are familiar with will allow you to reach neutral buoyancy easier. Finning technique: Slowing down your finning speed, using the relaxed “frog kick, ” and minimizing your arm movement will save you energy and therefore air. Breathing Technique: Slow, deep breaths get the maximum amount of oxygen to the lungs if the exhale is about the same length of time. Exercise, relaxation and visualization techniques: Staying physically fit, relaxing before dives, and visualize the process of descents and ascents will improve overall air consumption.
