Eleuthera, Bahamas Dive!

True Blue Dive Crew Members, Robert and Lisa Conner, recently experienced a dive trip to Eleuthera (referred to as the "Island of Freedom") in the Bahamas. They dove with great white sharks and descended 80’ into a hole which bottoms out at 100’. According to Robert and Lisa, the island is beautiful and has a laid-back atmosphere similar to Roatan.

This video was shot entirely with a HERO HD Camera, purchased from True Blue Watersports. They got some pretty amazing footage- see for yourself!

Dive Florida Keys

This "Secretary Class" Coast Guard Cutter was sunk as an artificial reef in November 1987 off the Florida Keys Coast. True Blue PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Ryan Mareno, took this photo the last time he dove on the USCG Duane.  You too can dive the artificial reef; Ryan will be leading a trip to dive it this coming Memorial Day.

Lionfish in the Flower Gardens?

Hard to believe the beautiful, but venomous, Lionfish has made its way to the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary.  These voracious predators spell disaster for sensitive ecosystems as they eat anything and have no known natural predators.  Researchers are keeping a watchful eye on the species. The arrival of the invasive Lionfish was the 4th most read news article in Galveston County in 2011.

Darrell Walker, Captain of the NOAA Research Vessel Manta, had the opportunity to harvest a pair of these predators on a research trip last summer.  You can keep track of, and report, non-indigenous species observed in the Gulf of Mexico and the Flower Garden Banks on the United States Geological Survey website.

Have you ever had any experiences with Lionfish?
